Orange has announced that Primal Scream are to headline this year’s Orange RockCorps volunteer concert. Also billed for the summer concert which this year takes place at Wembley Arena, are Jessie J and Eliza Doolittle, with more performers to be announced soon. The gig will take place on 12 July and is held as a reward for the 11,000 volunteers who have taken part in the Orange RockCorps scheme this year.
Launched in 2008, the scheme has snowballed in popularity, more than quadrupling its volunteer base in three years. In exchange for just four hours of targeted charity work, volunteers are rewarded with an exclusive one-off live concert. The scheme is focusing on over 150 charity projects across Greater London this year, as part of an effort to showcase London on the world stage.
Stephen Greene, CEO and co-founder of RockCorps, commented: “We are going to Wembley! We couldn’t have believed how the people of Britain would respond when we first came to the UK, but here it is - we are going to THE iconic British venue. The interest in Orange RockCorps has been phenomenal – and we roll on summer for what will be an incredible year. From UK legend Primal Scream to of the best of the new artists, Jessie J and the brilliant Eliza Doolittle, we are just thrilled by the support. And this year - the public tells us what to do, what issues and we will get to work on it with an army of volunteers.”
Head of Sponsorship for Orange, Andy Pearcey added: “Orange RockCorps is a fantastic initiative and one that we’re thrilled to be part of. We’re all really excited about 2011 in what will be Orange RockCorps biggest year. We wanted to reach out to a broader audience this year and we’ve got a phenomenal line up at the Wembley gig which we think will appeal to a variety of musical tastes. Orange RockCorps is for everyone and with You Decide and The Collective people from every corner of the UK can get involved and give four hours to make a difference in their community.”
