T-Mobile spoof strikes again with parking ticket stunt

Those wacky marketing bods at T-Mobile have been at it again. Earlier this year they gave us the hit Royal wedding dance spoof which saw Prince Harry body-popping down the aisle with Kate and Wills. The brand is renowned for its guerilla style ads which feature unsuspecting members of the public. Now, in another elaborate, and we have to say amusing, marketing ploy - they’ve employed teams of fake traffic wardens to slap dummy fines on motorists across the country.

To promote the new T-Mobile You Fix price plan, teams of actors and comedians were employed earlier this week to dress up as traffic wardens and put hundreds of ‘reverse-fines’ on illegally parked cars across England, Wales and Scotland. Here’s the clever bit - instead of a hefty fine, the convincing yellow slips stuck to people’s windscreens contained £5, £10, £20 or £50 notes. To capture the reactions of lucky motorists cameras were on hand, with the best footage set to feature in a new TV ad on Channel 5, tonight at 9.15pm.

Spencer McHugh, Director of Brand, T-Mobile, comments: “That sinking feeling you get when you return to your car to find a bright yellow parking fine plastered on the window is all too familiar for millions of motorists so we’re hoping to raise a few smiles with our ad and give motorists a surprise they won’t be expecting. We wanted to demonstrate in a fun and engaging way T-Mobile’s new plan, You Fix, which helps customers control their spending and ensure they never get a surprise bill at the end of the month.”

What is the T-Mobile You Fix plan?

You Fix is designed by T-Mobile to combat the problem of ‘spend control’ which is a particular issue for parents of kids who regularly spend more on their monthly mobile phone bills than agreed. The You Fix plan allows customers a set amount of minutes and texts for a fixed monthly tariff, usually on a 12-month contract. Once these minutes run out, customers can top-up in the same way as a pay-as-you-go customer would - meaning it’ll be much easier to control spending and harder to get a shock bill at the end of the month.
